2002 organisierte die Gruppe Stay Free eine Kunstausstellung unter dem Titel Illegal Art und veröffentlichte eine gleichnamige CD. Den verschiedenen Titeln ist gemeinsam, dass sie markante Samples beinhalten. Im CD-Booklet heißt es dazu: „Die meisten dieser Titel würden niemals existieren, wenn sich die Produzenten an das Urheberrecht gehalten hätten. Viele andere Arbeiten können möglicherweise nie veröffentlicht werden, wenn wir nicht aktiv werden, um Künstlern die Rechte für einen freien Schaffensprozess zu garantieren.“
In Dortmund wird das Projekt als Hörstation im Ladengeschäft „Heimatdesign“ (Kleppingstraße 43) präsentiert.

In 2002 the group Stay Free organised an art exhibition entitled Illegal Art and published a CD of the same name compiling a series of musical compositions. Common to the various tracks is that they all include distinctive samples. As the CD booklet notes, ‘Most of these tracks would never have existed if the artists had adhered to copyright law. Many other works might never be heard unless we act soon to grant artists the right to create them’.
In Dortmund, the project is being presented as a listening station in the retail shop ‘Heimatdesign’ (‘Native Design’, Kleppingstraße 43).
